Miranda July takes on The Future

There’s no way I’ll be able to see all the movies I want to see at the SF International Film Festival this year, but I am definitely making time for Miranda July‘s new film The Future. It revolves, as all relationship what does this mean talks do, around the subject of cat adoption.

It features, apparently, feline voiceover narration, dance instruction, and time travel. I never know where July’s mind will go, but I always find unexpected delight and sadness in it. For me, her movies tend to be more about individual moments than the larger film, but those slices of poignancy are long lasting. I still think about a few of the scenes in July’s last film, You and Me and Everyone We Know. I can’t wait to see her new one.
