The [Revenge] of Acid Wash.

Claire | April 26th, 2011

Okay let’s face it: it’s ugly.  Plain and simple, there’s no denying that the smattering of eroded paint-like denim texture is not pretty to look at.  Well, at least not to my eyes.  But there is something undeniably untouchable about the allure of such a familiar texture once it has been broken down.

It all started in the 70′s in Italy when the Rifle denim company tried washing jeans with pumice stones to give new denim fabric a worn-out texture and appearance.  The trend was taken in by fans of punk rock and heavy metal in the 80′s, and although stonewashing remained a popular method of distressing denim through the 90′s and 2000′s, it is not until the recent winter season that the full bleached look of Acid Wash has come back in full effect.

Now, in 2011 acid wash has come to its own in a more modern kind of bloom – pencil shaped skinny cuts worn with loose-fitting tops, stiletto booties, Converse Sneakers, Ray Bans and leather jackets have gone rampant on the streets.

Although it’s still far from my personal style of choice, respect to those who can pull it off without a flinch.
