Maybe I don’t need to go to San Francisco … ever again.
The best coffee roasters from the Bay Area all have found their beans in cafes in Los Angeles, happily all within a short walk from where I live. And let’s be serious here for a minute… Intelligentsia? They should move back to Chicago.
The most exciting addition is having Four Barrel coffee available to me just on the other side of the river, at Cognosccenti in Atwater. Four Barrel is, perhaps, the best coffee to be had anywhere.
Forage on Sunset Blvd in Silver Lake not only serves Blue Bottle coffee, but they carry beans for sale too. That’s a nice option, since Blue Bottle was always my choice of beans for brewing at home. And even Ritual has representation in Los Angeles, in the form of Bru Coffee Bar in Los Feliz. Though, I have to admit, I was a little annoyed at how much they were charging for a drip of Ritual (the cup I had was $4) and, worst of all, it was pretty weak.
