Bridesmaids Looks Good

I haven’t caught the last few Judd Apatow-produced flicks, but the latest, Bridesmaids, looks really good. I’m going to chalk it up to the Kristen Wiig / Annie Murnolo writing combo. The setup is kind of what you’d expect: Single 30-something Wiig is asked to be a her friend’s maid of honor, which involves more wrangling of eccentrics than it does acting as bridal-support. The follow through–at least from the trailer–looks very promising. And it’s not just me thinking it might be good; both critics and friends have suggested it recently.

I suspect there are a lot of popular gags done better. There’s a food sickness scene in the trailer that reminds me of a certain Charlotte-centered sickness scene in the Sex and the City movie. (Yeah, I watched it. Don’t judge.) Anyway, the Bridesmaids version of the joke looks better. It made me chuckle in the trailer, which is impressive considering it got maybe a 10-second set up. I’m looking forward to seeing it.
