I walked by this place on Roncesvalles Ave about a week ago and my jaw dropped. I started snapping photos through the window of the amazing vintage fixtures that were in this abandoned spot. Images of eggs and bacon on the grill and malt sodas flashing through my head. Someone needs to restore this NOW!
Seems like I’m not the only one excited by this relic. BlogTO recently published and article with great photos that really highlighted the bygone glory of what was once Ace Restaurant. Toronto has a bunch vintage diners that have been restored – The Lakeview being one of the more trendy additions but notable mentions include The George Street Diner, The Avenue, Sadie’s Diner and 24 hour greasy spoon, Vesta Lunch. All have different fantastic things to offer whether you are looking for $4.99 all day breakfast, tofu scramble or a $17 burger but none have wowed me as much at this dusty old Chinese restaurant.
Thankfully the new owners have said that they will be holding out for the tenants that intend on bringing this space back to life. I can’t wait to see what happens – this makes my vintage loving heart pound!
