Citing new “looks” becomes increasingly difficult as I notice a growing closeness between the ironic/street styles of hip kids and the new clothing lines of high fashion. The “interconnectedness” resulting from the net-age is really noticed as the tribalism of fashion culture is beginning to disappear. There is no such thing as a “mod” anymore, and there hasn’t really been for well over a decade, and there are barely even “rockers” left in the world’s more modern cities. Like much quality media and art being produced today, most looks are an amalgam of ideas with subtle doses of seemingly ironic embraces meant to excite and confuse. Being able to be labeled is not 2011. Doing what is expected is so not 2011. What is 2011? what will 2012 be?
Anyway here are some looks that I have seen a lot of in NY lately.
Loose Trousers- on men they are usually with tuck and always cuffed high. Often white.
Dip Dyeing- the trend that started at super low-end retailers and made it tastefully to the top
Maxi Skirts- Not that into this, it’s just not that cute, but it helps if they are white cuz then there is the whole floating thing.
White on white
This page looks like a Terrence Koh sidewalk sale.
