Color theory be damned. I don’t care about complimentary, tertiary or any of that. I want to be decked in hues of the same tint and shade. And recently I’m seeing a lot of this monochromatic matching. Designer Mariona Gen’s spring line uses varying shades of complimentary corals, greys, and violets.
There has always been something appealing to me about pairing similar colors. I like the long lines it creates, how it draws the eye, instead of breaking up outfits with color blocks. I’m starting to see this all the time in styling for editorials and on runways. The spring look book for indie shoemakers The Horse is full of lovely azure shades on both models. The softly shifting shades are perfect for spring and the pastel bouquets coming our way.
