A Heterosexual Movie by Gregg Araki

Paul | June 22nd, 2011

The 90′s are obviously very back. Primavera Sound was like walking round Seattle in 1994 but where the kids had swapped the heroin for MDMA. That actually accounts for all the tie-dye t-shirts we saw amongst the plaid shirts and dirty, dirty jeans.

I saw Greg Araki’s The Doom Generation last night, and it seems like the quintessential 90′s movie. Or how films like The Craft or My Own Private Idaho should have been if Hollywood had real balls. The styling is exceptional and the colours feel like a Wim Wenders movie (but much less boring). It’s also gory, and sick, and camp without being kitsch and CONSTANTLY sets up stereotypes to fuck with them (The newscaster scene in the motel room is ace).
