NXNE Is More Than Just Music

It’s time for NXNE! As usual an influx of amazing bands, films, and seminars are packed into 5 days of excitement. Current buzz bands like Twin Shadow, Braids, and Royal Bangs mesh in with 90′s throwbacks Evan Dando and Julianna Hatfield and hip-hop legends Digable Planets.

The festival has recently started NXNE Interactive – a series of workshops, presentations, and parties aimed at bringing together artists, new media, business and technology to explore topics of relevance and interest. Many of the events in NXNEi center around social media and digital interface, such as ‘Internet Culture: Proliferation, Observation and The Importance of Both” and ‘Digital Beats + Tweets: How technology is changing the face of Hip Hop’.  It is interesting that the seminars go beyond the music industry proper and into topics of social activism, design, and business savvy – see the bigger picture!

One of the best things about NXNE is how affordable it is – a 5 day wrist band for club venues is only $50! Not to mention the great line-up for the outdoor shows at Dundas Square and the Acoustic Picnic Series in Trinity Bellwoods Park. If I didn’t have to work I could pretty much eat, sleep and drink (4am last call!) NXNE.
