Ahh Montreal, the perfect fusion between European ideals and North American conveniences. Nowhere does the European star shine more brightly than at Piknic Electronik.
For lovers of electronic music, dancing, and sunshine, Piknic Electronik is pretty close to paradise. Every Sunday from the end of May til the end of September between 2 and 9pm, people gather by the thousands to dance under the iconic statue at the man-made Island Sainte-Hélène, under the statue at the Place De L’Homme to the gently pounding basslines and percussive beats churned out by the world’s finest DJs.
You can bring your own wine or beer so long as you bring a picnic to go with it – cheese and crackers, fruit, sandwiches, and maybe something sweet. Too lazy to pack a lunch or simply not hungry? No matter, there are crepes, smokies, smoothies with or without alcohol, cold beers, sangria, and vodka redbull for sale on-site. For $10-$12 you can dance, hang out, or wander through the forest by the river to your heart’s content. It’s kind of like having a mini-Ibiza or Ayia-Napa right in the middle of the city all summer long.
The only real drawback to Piknic is that it is completely weather-dependant. When it rains it’s still fun, but Piknic Electronik on a rainy day is nothing compared to magic one can experience under the rays of the golden sun on a beautiful summer’s day.
