Heliogabál is a bar in Gracia with a capacity of 49 (according to the sign on the door) that more than a venue, is an incubator for experimental music, art and literature. I like to think of it as a warm creative womb. Bands like El Guincho, Margarita, Esplendor Geometrico, White Magick, Narwhal and Coconut, have all played shows here, and they also do experimental poetry nights, curate art exhibitions and are totally integrated into the life of the neighbourhood, hosting a legendary stage at Gracia’s annual street festival.
Another thing about this place: El helio is, wait for it, clean and tidy without being anodyne. It’s got character and toilet seats.
