Who is the real James Bond?

Sean Connery as James Bond

It is a hot topic of debate whether Sean Connery or Roger Moore plays a better James Bond.  I myself lean toward Connery, and not just because he is the original.  There is something undeniably classy about the sleekness of his gestures and the crisp re-mastered sound of his voice in the first few films of the series. Perhaps it is the playful mischievious glint in his eye, lacking in all seriousness yet utterly serious at the same time.  Or the way he twists the corner of his mouth upwards ever-so-slightly when he is scheming up the plan, or the hair on his chest, a savage contrast to his pristinely-kept hair and suited attire. Perhaps it is no coincidence, then, that many of the most famous in the Bond series feature Connery: Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, and Diamonds are Forever.  But all of this to say that regardless of Roger Moore’s cinematic achievements in the series, when I picture James Bond I see Sean Connery.

Though Dr. No made Connery a star, it was his charismatic presence on-screen and distinctly suave mannerisms that have caused many to identify him forever with the dangerous British Spy with a license to kill.  So answer me this. When you hear the words: ‘Bond, James Bond,’ Who do you think of?

Roger Moore as 007

  1. Ivar says:

Sean Connery cannot be compared with any other actor who played 007 in the movies. He is the face of James Bond and everyone else can only be compared to him. I also agree with Claire. Sean Connery feels and looks more like a James Bond then anyone else. Second best James bond in my opinion is George Lazenby. Third is either Roger Moore or Daniel Craig (Daniel because he has the advantage of the more serious image of James Bond only. For some reason i think it suites the character)

Anyways, if u ask me who the real bond is…i’ll say Sean Connery
