If I had a dollar for every time in the past year I said “only in Portland” I’d be about $180 richer! This town is full of the cooky, off color, alternative, “I don’t want to grow up” people and I (for the most part) love meeting each and everyone of them – tall bikers and unicyclists need not apply.
I myself am in a Softball League with the likes of Stephen Malkmus and a plethora of bar owners, and have tried to round up three friends to join me in the Portland Metal Bowling League to no avail. But when I stumbled upon this site the other day I muttered to myself (make that $181 richer) “only in Portland”. Recesstime Sports Leagues is one of those oh so Portland-y or should I say Portland-ish(?) organizations that makes me happy to live here.
Founded in 2006, sports they offer include: Dodgeball, Kickball, Bowling, Ping Pong, and last but certainly not least, Mushball. Which until today I had no idea existed. After closer investigation (i.e. reading the website) I’ve deducted that Mushball is Softball but played with a 16″ ball and it’s origins are from Chicago…or something like that. Whatever it is, it looks fun!
