Since launching his label in 1998 David West has built up a reputation as an innovative fashion designer, having collaborated with What If The World Gallery, artist Julia Clark and exhibited as part of Toffie Pop Culture festival in Cape Town.
David West produces men’s and womenswear collections available in stores and designer outlets across South Africa. The brand has seen tremendous growth in the last few years with annual shows at Cape Town Fashion week and the launch of a new store with design duo Dokter and Misses.
“Designers designer” – David West is renowned for his exploration of Cape Dutch and Japanese aesthetics. I don’t know how many creatives Ive seen wearing shirts, tiered A-line skirts and neoprene Jackets from his hit summer 2010 collection (How To Find Love and Happiness in The Present Day).
Despite his growing success, David West has managed to produce clothing that continually challenges conventional notions of beauty. West has managed to create a market for himself through his many multi-disciplinary collaborations, providing the local industry with a much needed model for conceptual fashion.
