Red Hot Lips, Side Slits + Racerbacks

Claire | October 17th, 2011

This fall at Fashion week in Montreal, designers were showing off their spring 2012 collections on the catwalk. Amidst a rampant wash of nearly-nude coral tones and floral prints, loose flowing lines displayed by bright-lipped leggy models, certain trends made themselves apparent.

Red hot and orange lips, shirts and dresses with side slits and peekaboo places to reveal slender silhouettes and sideboob, but above all one trend reigned dominant: the racerback.
The racerback has been giving frontal cleavage a run for its money for the past year or so, but this fall on the catwalk it has never been more obvious that the shoulder is the new hot bodily object in fashion, and what a better way to flaunt it than with a half, full, or extreme racerback?

The racerback in its various incarnations has been making appearances on dresses short and long, loose-fitting tees, tank tops, camisoles, and jumpers. Montreal designers Travis Taddeo and Denis Gagnon and Complex Geometries are all over showing a little shoulder. So the next time you’re debating which body part to focus on at the gym, grab a pair of dumbbells or do the plank to give those shoulders some sleek sensual definition.
