Johannesburg based rapper Bhubesii re-introduced himself earlier this year with the release of a mixtape titled Starring As Himself. Bhubesii has been on a five year hiatus after years as a host and emcee on downtowns then, emerging rap-scene in the early 2000′s.
Starring as himself explains why Bhubesii left the game, what he went through and how he has changed during his absence. The tape flows through experiences with girls, working as a stylist in the fashion industry and to a darker time when Bhubesii survived a stabbing.
Since his return onto the music scene Bhubesii has been involved in two very different projects. The Take Away Boys, a dynamic duo with a vibrant sound and the morose, almost suicidal sounding Sandton & Sons. Both projects provide a unique sound to the South African musical landscape although it seems it is Bhubesii starring as himself who is set to gain the throne as king of the jungle.
