Backpacker rap is back

Paul | November 14th, 2011

I guess it was only a matter of time before what used to be dismissed as backpacker hip hop got a revival.

What with Das Racist being openly influenced by Slam poetry and other embarassing shit, and old groups like Digable Planets resurfacing in new forms (Shabazz Palaces) I’ve been listening to some of the 90′s hip-hop that has fallen out of favour over the last 10 years. The verdict?  The first Talib Kwali and Hi-Tek records still holds up. Not much else does.
