The Newest Wangster’s Hit Portland

Marissa | February 17th, 2012

Die Antwoord, which means ”the answer” in Afrikaans, is coming to Portland February 18th. They’re playing the Roseland and it’s sure to be a scary, crazy, probably mind blowing show. I saw them when they played Portland last year, and it was trippy, to say the least.

The band, whose genre could described as rap-rave, consists of frontman Ninja, known for his, ahem, endowments, and co-frontwoman Yo-Landi Vi$$er, who has the cutest lil’ baby voice you’ve ever heard, spiting some of the nastiest, meanest lyrics you could think of. Describing themselves as “zef,” which Afrikaners who are conservative call the underbelly of South Africa, they’ve embraced the word, having pride in the fact that they are the underdogs/underbelly of South Africa and they don’t give a f**k!

Taken from the about page on their website:

“Die Antwoord are a fre$, futuristik, flame-throw-flow-freeking, zef rap-rave krew from da dark dangerous depths of Afrika.”

Their latest collaboration puts them in all the latest fashion magazines and in the front row of New York Fashion Week’s Spring 2012 Alexander Wang show. Wang ask them to be the face(s) of his Spring 2012 T by Alexander Wang line. Peep the promo video below and check out their website here.
