“ACME is the most exciting restaurant in New York”

Those were the words posted on a food message board that Eater then re-posted that finally made me have to see for myself. I am not one for hyperbole but it is, for the moment, completely true. NY’s restaurant scene is over-inundated with stone oven pizzas, duck liver pate’s, gourmet mac and cheese, or 30 dollar fried chicken. At ACME, chef Mads Refslund, a founder of Copenhagen’s Noma, which was as I understand the best restaurant in the world for a little bit, cooks up surprisingly unique dishes with deceptively simple descriptions like “Chicken and Eggs” or “Roasted Carrots,” both of which were fantastic.

The space keeps part of the old ACME restaurant’s southern decor but adds Scandinavian sconce lighting and dish-ware. The vibe is very “hip” and socialite-y, which is almost too bad, but unlike the Waverly Inn or wherever, the food here actually makes you wonder why everyone has been making such boring stuff everywhere. Like, I had almost forgot that food can give you an epiphany.
