Every summer everyone who thinks they are “hip” in America is like “I love the beach!” and then they go and listen to some garage rock on a boombox in ironic beachwear. I think it’s time that we all did a better job getting beach-y.
This year there is a spat of Miami Bass/freestyle music coming from the same UK electronic music landscape that brought us dubstep, and it is completely perfect. Shep Pettibone meets Get Physical techno circa 2006 and UK bass music and progressive house circa right now. This is what my summer will sound like (I listen to this stuff in winter too and sit under sunlight imitating bulbs)
