New Threads: Nhu Duong

Milene | June 8th, 2012

Rising Swedish design star Nhu Duong was born in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, daughter of a Kung-Fu Master and a tailor. Naturally, she now deals in neatly tailored, Kung-Fu inspired clothes.

Since she graduated from Beckmans College Of Design in 2008, established brands like Acne, Weekdays and H&M have been fighting over being associated with this talented, prized young designer. Nhu manages to transform the craziest materials, prints, colours and patterns into elegant and modern couture creations.

She works a lot with layers and sharp cuts, and each collection builds upon the other, which is a brilliant concept, as it avoids clothes from previous collections feeling dated.

She also takes the comfort of the wearer into consideration, resulting in most of her clothes being as wearable at the gym (if you can pull off wearing an oversized, wrinkled-paper style skirt when lifting weights) as at a swanky cocktail party.

You can find her S/S 12 collection Coding at Aplace and Snickarbacken 7 in Stockholm, and at U.S Import in Copenhagen. For fashionistas with limited budgets, Nhu Duong has, together with fashion blogger Elin Kling, also created a collection for their less pricey brand Nowhere.
