Entering The Dragon’s Kitchen

Kuma | July 6th, 2012

Vancouver is full of Barbeque joints. While they have yet to becomes as ubiquitous as sushi or Starbucks in Vancouver, you’re almost at a point where you need to pick and choose.

Fat Dragon BBQ makes it easy to choose. Conceptually served up as southern barbeque complimented by Asian flavours, this joint truly is the spot where east meets south.

Szechuan pork belly sandwiches served on basic white bread. Half a pig’s head with kimchi. Malay marinade on your chicken wings. It’s all the traditional dishes that you’d expect from southern BBQ but with a Southeast Asian twist that’ distinctly Vancouver.

You know it’s good if only because of the name’s behind it, gentlemen who are a brand in themselves in Vancouver food. Robert Belcham and Tom Doughty, are the dudes behind the two Campagnolo restaurants, Campagnolo and Campagnolo Roma. Tom Anderson’s the chef and if you’ve eaten his food at Refuel or at Campagnolo, his placement in the kitchen speaks for itself.

With roots in its DTES location, an ownership that’s show success and a concept that’s a guaranteed win, it wont be too long before yet another Dragon pops up, I’m sure.
