Helena Hörnstedt

Milene | July 5th, 2012

Helena Hörnstedt masters pattern construction and draping with such ease she makes the rest of the young designer army look like lazy slobs relying on the oversize trend like wannabe DJs rely on their iPods.

But it’s not only her enviable handicraft skills that make jaws drop, it’s also her ability of mixing organic randomness with the calculated architectonic, all while making her intricately sculpted creations easy on the eye by shying away from colour. Everything she does is monochrome black, which gives her garments a timeless feel and elevates the focus on their construction and shapes. Helena doesn’t comply with the hectic pace of the fashion industry. She operates like an artist, meaning we will have to sit and patiently await her next body of meticulously tailored work.
