New Slang

Guillaume | July 26th, 2012

A few days ago I experienced what they call the generation gap. The first sign was earlier this year when I heard about teenagers use of the words « soin » and « douce », which sound like « care » and « sweet » in French, although I don’t know if they have any relation to their primary meanings.

Apparently these words are used to insist on a fellow teenagers good looks. Of course new slang appears all the, however in this instance I have never actually heard these words, I have only been told that some use them; probably only when they are in the company of people their own age. Of course I can find out about the use of these words on skyrock, which is probably the largest and youngest (in terms of its audience) blogging platform in France – but the idea behind the words remains rather mysterious.
