Social networking has come to the world of art collecting, or if you’re just a poor artist like me, art stalking. Art.sy works like your Netflix suggestions. You pick artists and works that you like, or more general categories like Minimalism or the color blue and Art.sy gives you suggestions of similar or related works.
This isn’t just like “If you like The Mona Lisa, we know you’ll like The Girl With The Pearl Earring.” Art.sy has all kinds of work from contemporary and living artists. Part of the point is to market work for galleries and artists, but it is surprisingly interesting for those of us who don’t have the Benjamins to drop. It is still in beta testing, but it has made quite a stir in the art world and is sure to change how all kinds of people discover, share, and purchase art.
