Oranj You Glad

Nursing a hangover from going out the night before hard, I walked into Oranj pleasantly surprised by how uber hip the new salon space in the SW Waterfront (0726 SW Gaines St.) was. This area is so new that I’m never convinced the real estate will ever fill up right, but located next to a clothing store Oranj is right where it should be.

My Stylist, Tamara, greeted me, quickly putting coffee in my headache-y hand, imbibing my brew we talked about what I wanted to do with my hair. Important note: I had sent her a picture of the bangs I wanted from a slideshow, so it’s a good thing we chatted about my style because she thought I wanted Rooney Mara’s blunt bangs when I really wanted Lea Michele’s rounded bang – crisis averted!

Moving onto the BEST part of the visit, the shampoo massage chair. Oh my, is all can I can really say about this piece of heaven. Let’s just say, tired or no, hangover or no, this chair would make you pass out in any day of the week, and throwing in the scalp massage is just the cherry on top of an already wonderful experience. In fact, Tamara told me they had all of the chairs shipped in from Italy, and Italian chic they most definitely were. As was the rest of the furniture, which she told me her husband and business partner objected to at first but has come around to, even more so every time he sits in the shampoo chair.

I don’t know how to write this without sounding like a salesperson but I’m going to be honest with you. I loved/love my haircut. I am one of those people, who I don’t think is in the minority, which hates my hair right when I get it cut. Stylists that have been working with me for years know that I won’t react to a cut when it’s first done. But honestly this one I loved when I walked out the doors. Granted it wasn’t that big of a change – see before and after pictures below – it was a trim, but I’ve had trims go horribly awry before so it’s no small feat in my mind.

Form start to finish my time spent at Oranj Studio was wonderful and would highly suggest you check it out for yourself.
