I like the possibility of surprise and seeing where people go, this is what lead me to Vancity funk hop and soulsters, the Star Captains.
Once upon a time there was a voice like no other singing the hooks on local hip hop tracks, working with dudes like Jeff Spec and slaying crowds cross the country. This was the mighty Narai Dawn. In another corner there was a band smashing out in their own words, a “beat-laced fusion of analog synthesizers and classic guitar tones.” They called themselves the Star Captains.
If you know a little something about astronomy and astrology, you know that stars align, planets cross, universes shift. They do, and that’s what gave us the Star Captains in 2012.
So what you have now is a band whose chops are razor sharp. Anyone can cover classic soul, r&b or hip-hop but few can make it their own, let alone invoke the spirit in a whole new way.
