The only DIY space in Brooklyn that really stands apart from the rest is the Body Actualized Center (no disrespect to the excellent 285 Kent) and that is because more than just music venue or party space, they actually put on Yoga and New-Age workshops and everything operates under a mantra of astral projection and enlightenment.
By not just being “new-age” hipsters and actually promoting psychic energy these guys are “putting their money where their mouth is” so to speak, though the space is anything but geared toward the accumulation of wealth or anything physical. The parties they throw are also excellent, mostly new age synth or techno parties, but for a very self-aware and hip crowd. Seems like it should be a hipster farce, but it is not. It is the real thing.
