Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon’s marital separation does a number on Sonic Youth.
Guitarist Lee Ranaldo has furthered the rumours that the band’s future is uncertain – some commentators have even said that it’s all over already. Whatever happens, the ongoing drama is incidental in comparison to the three decades of music they leave behind them.

If you can forget all the petty complaints about OTT Terry Richardson references you might have the insight to see that this is likely a pretty significant aesthetic document; a marking point on what the current era looks like style-wise. It will probably be most appreciated in a few years time when styles have changed significantly enough for it’s signatory tone to be seen in context.

Through his Arnie themed side project, Austrian Death Machine, Tim has released A Very Brutal Christmas EP and somehow made a genre that trended 7 years ago (deathcore) feel relevant again, with the simple trick of not taking itself to seriously.

QR codes and having stuff delivered probably not the future of high street, but it’s not far off.

With smartphones more widespread this sort of thing will be more common. The eBay Christmas Boutique was a gimmick, but don’t be surprised if you see more big as well as indie retailers trying this concept out.
