Four years ago, Mr Price, “South Africa’s top value fashion retailer” partnered up with Elle South Africa to become part of the “Elle New Talent”, a young designer competition, which had already been running for ten years. Before this the competition produced top South African designers such as Terrence Bray, Jacques van der Watt and David Tlale. Since then no notable names have emerged and the collections shown each year, bar a few exceptions have been uninspired. Is this a coincidence? Is the youth of South African design in a slump? Or is the pursuit for viability having a negative effect on creativity?

Bootlegs of Dj Fish Dvd Vol 1 have since flooded the streets of downtown Johannesburg – a ploy which has been adopted by some artists lately as a strategy to build a greater fan base. Whether or not Dj Fish is behind the bootlegs is hard to say however the peculiar nature of his dvd leaves a mystifying effect around the man. Read More
