Keeping Vancouver In Stitches For Thirty Years

Kuma | September 3rd, 2010

Vancouver can claim a multitude of fashion institutions. We brought the world Westbeach, Lululemon and as much as many would deny it, Gene Simmons’s fave denim brand, Dussault Appareal.

Will Cowboy Boots Come Back and (Please) Stomp on Gladiator Sandals?

Arielle | August 30th, 2010
Around Spring/Summer 2005, I lived in a couple of pairs of cowboy boots. I spent part of that summer in Nashville and Memphis, so I guess those cities rubbed off on me. But back in Miami my friends were wearing them too.  Cowboy boots are comfortable because they get broken in quickly and easily. They mold to your feet, and when worn right they look more sleaze-rock than Dolly Parton (not that there is anything wrong with Dolly). Then that stupid Dukes Of Hazzard movie came out, and Jessica Simpson and her minions ruined it — cowboy boots turned into that year’s Uggs. Ugh!

The Precarious Polka Dot and the Captivating Cutout

Claire | August 27th, 2010

The precarious polka dot is everywhere these days, it seems.  Spots of white adorn garments of many different shapes and sizes, ranging from the itsy bitsy teeny weeny itty bitty string bikini to the casual summer dress, full-on cocktail party dress, high-waisted skirt, one-piece jumper, wide retro headband, and little flat ballet shoes.  Bold primary colors go best with these fun, round companions: red, green, navy blue, and black.   Read More

My top 3 Spanish fashion photographers

Paul | August 27th, 2010

Sorry, but no. No money to spend on clothes at the moment and no inclination to go into the town center due to the annual epidemic of tourists and pickpockets. Instead, here’s a list of my favourite fashion photographers working in Spain.

I think bloomers are sexy :)

Sage | August 24th, 2010

I just got some fancy lil’ red lacy bloomers I’ve been wearing as a swimsuit bottom, and I LOVE them. Innocent and sexy at once, slightly longer styles work as playful shorts and take some sass and confidence to pull off…I’ll admit I’m feeling up to the challenge this Summer, if the weather would ever stay sunny long enough to wear fun little nothings!

I want a million pairs of cowboy boots.

Sage | August 20th, 2010

This pair makes me swoon. I’m on a severe western kick right now. I am wearing a newly acquired beige pair of cowboy boots every day since purchase, and am barely quelling the desire to shell out big bucks on every pair I see. Every make, every color, the wilder the better, and especially perfectly broken-in vintage ones. They go with jeans OR dresses and spice up a bland outfit!  This bright blue pair may be hard to justify, but picture them with black leggings and a bright yellow ruffly top! It would be fantastic! These are so killer! I don’t know many girls who AREN’T looking for bright red cowboy boots, and if these arrived anywhere in my size they would be mine. Luckily, not everyone shares my obsession [yet] so these kinds of treasures are still available from time to time.

Long Live the Rare and Fancy

Sage | August 16th, 2010

Here’s a vintage pattern from the 1940’s — a pattern to make rayon gabardine embroidered western shirts! Super elaborate and exciting, these increasingly hard-to-find shirts are darted in all the right places and super flattering and slimming, not to mention unique and adorable. Read More

All About a Sexy Black Leather Jacket

Sage | August 13th, 2010

Swoon! You’d think it would be relatively easy to find a black leather jacket in a fair price range, but I’m having a lot of trouble for some reason. Read More

Fellas, please ditch American Apparel and step it up

Sage | August 9th, 2010

Above is the Portland-everyguy. Everywhere I look, there are men in hoodies and skinny jeans, and sneakers. Thanks to American Apparel’s degree in cool school, expensive pricing and trend mongering, all the youngsters are hankering to make sure they fit into the hipster archetype. Sigh. Really? Does anyone look good in skinny jeans? A big person looks even bigger, a skinny person looks daft with skinny jeans falling off their nonexistent butt. Read More

In Harmony with Thieves

Right now, I am fascinated with Sonja den Elzen’s 5-in-1 Dress. This dress can be worn in several different ways; however, it’s far from the sarong slinging visions that this statement might conjure up. Effortlessly chic, and made of Tencel Jersey, this dress looks as comfortable as it is current. Read More
