Punk, Pass, Poser: Who did punk proper at the Met Ball 2013

Marissa | May 24th, 2013

So, I know this is old news by now, but I wanted to share my thoughts regarding the The Met Ball 2013. This years theme was punk, due to the latest costume exhibit; Punk: Chaos to Couture (that ahem, I’ll be checking out at the end of the month.) But I won’t bore you with Best/Worst dressed sh*t. Sure Sienna and Cara killed it in studded Burberry and while I consider Chloe Sevigny at least sort of punk she wasn’t really doing anything for me. I’m going to get down to who I thought really owned the punk aesthetic.

Punk: Kim Gordon in Saint Laurent, Dree Hemingway in Stella McCartney, Kathryn Neale Shaffer in Carven, and Greta Gerwig in Saint Laurent, and somehow Marion Cotillard in Doir owned it, my only choice that wasn’t wearing all black.

A few weeks ago, Matthias Aker’s documentary ‘The Artist is Present’ was released in France. What a strong statement on art and performance. The movie is about Marina Abramović’s  MOMA retrospective, in 2010.The artist had the idea to create a new performance in which she would sit motionless in front of museum visitors, gazing into their eyes, during the opening hours of the museum, for three months in a row. About the new Revolution Monument

Jorge Pedro | January 19th, 2013

For years, the Monument was a white elephant, the elephant in the room, a waste with elephantiasis. Today it attracts many visitors, both local and foreign, who appreciate the ‘lookout’, who enjoy the store and the cafeteria and who are overwhelmed by the opportunity to get near a beaming, dignified and amazing Revolution Monument.

Carlos Monsiváis

A city chronicler is one who recounts events from the past and combines them with those of today to construct knowledge, and above all, contemplation. When we think about city chroniclers, Carlos Monsiváis, who passed away two years ago, immediately comes to mind.

The Everlasting Auction House

Robin | January 13th, 2013

The foundation of the auction house Saráchaga was led by Juan Daniel Saráchaga on 1938 and its main activity were judicial auctions. It took many years until he saw, in 1958, the enormous potential that existed in art. Since the sixties, Saráchaga’s House started important auctions of luxury and art objects. Some were from Picasso and Renoir, for example, and marked a resounding success that opened a new era in Argentinean auctioning.
