City: London, UK
Andy Capper grew up in Southport where he worked as a court reporter while playing in punk bands which were so good that not many people ever actually heard them.
After stints at the NME and working with James Brown’s IFG company, as well as freelance work on the Guardian and Observer, Andy helped found and set up VICE UK, the first non-North American office in what will, by the end of 2009 be a media company with offices in 30 countries. He’s the editor of Vice in the UK and now European creative director of VBS.TV. In the last year, he’s made films with Leo Leigh about the decline of Britain, published a book of photographs by Gavin Watson entitled Skins & Punks and has a book out on Simon & Shuster in November which is the oral history behind the feature film Heavy Metal In Baghdad. In July he visited Liberia where he filmed with warlords with names like General Butt Naked, General Rambo and General Bin Laden.
He currently lives in Stoke Newington with his cat and sometimes plays music with members of the bands Fucked Up and Integrity. His favourite tattooists are Thomas Hooper and Chad Koeplinger. He has supported Liverpool Football Club all his life and with Fernando Torres, has never felt this way about a man before.
