There is a large yard with seating and tables to lounge about and/or work. Sunday nights provide free movie screenings, a popular trend in LA (guerilla movie viewing in parking lots, etc.) No cellphone service though. Boo!
WILDNESS is a fun, gender bending club night at the THE SILVER PLATTER in Macarthur Park. The bar is usually a Mexican tranny bar, but WILDNESS takes over with afro and disco dance beats. The crowd is jammed with gays, straights, guys, girls and guys dressed as girls.
FULL FRONTAL DISCO takes place the first Sunday of every month at the Grand Star Jazz Club in Chinatown. A perfect venue for everyone to dress up in their best “costume” and lose it on the dance floor to disco beats. Recently spotted at the club night: Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, bringing excitement to our east side eyes.
THE LOCAL is a restaurant/deli in the Silver Lake/Echo Park border. Although a bit pricey, the food is delicious and the aesthetic is unusually fun – the place used to be an antique furniture store.

The shoes are mostly canvas slip ons – comfy, well made and cute. I own two pairs: gray and black.  The owners have a shop in Echo Park where the shoes are made and sold. Additionally, the couple are part of the band WE ARE THE WORLD.
Gender bending unisex clothing is pretty popular these days. A lot of guys, not particularly gay ones either, adorn (ed – wear?) women’s shirts, blouses, and even foot wear. It plays on sexuality and sometimes can look really really good. Sometimes, it is a disaster!! See photos.
Even in the middle of an LA summer, layers are a popular fashion choice.  Scarves, vests, jackets and sweaters all together are a style choice I see when I am out and about.
DIY! So many people make their own clothing these days: either writing out, or printing-out, a maxim or witticism or name on t-shirts. In the same vein, people are buying & collecting clothes and altering or cutting them into new forms. An example would be cutting the sleeves, the collar, or even the entire article itself in half.
