Sometimes, when I crave real entertainment, I look into the past rather than toward the future… and it was through one of these random cinematic meanderings that I happened to stumble upon one of the finest films ever made: Bonnie + Clyde. Now, I don’t normally like Westerns, or romantic comedies either. And I find all the guns and car chases a little over-the-top in Hollywood these days. But Bonnie and Clyde somehow manages to bury all of the predicaments I could have had. It is none other than pure cinematic awesomeness.
From the opening credits to the bitter ending, I marveled at the sass and beauty of Faye Dunaway as Bonnie, the smooth-talking bad ass gangster ways of Clyde, the potent colors, editing, alluring photography and the power of both the story and their love. Yes there were guns, and car crashes. Lots of guns and blood and good old shoot ‘em down gunfights and road chases. But somehow in this movie they come off as thrilling rather than cliche.
The fact that it’s based on a true story makes the film all the better. I don’t want to give anything too critical away – but the next time if you’re stuck on what to watch, why not try your eyes on Bonnie + Clyde?
