Mindspace Garden: A Space for Young Couples

Asia Scout | November 11th, 2008

Finding open spaces for young couples to hangout in Mumbai can be quite a task. Apart from the crowded sea fronts like Marine Drive, Nariman Point, Bandstand, etc. couples aren’t left with much choice. Either the moral police blows the whistle or strangers stare at you as if they are invisible.

When a huge garden comes up, and it’s away from the hustle and bustle of the city, it’s always welcomed. I recently discovered this place called Mindspace Garden on the edge of Malad creek, the western suburb of Mumbai, and was surprised to see such a huge recreational place in the city. There are several parks mostly around residential areas in the city, but they are fairly small in size. Very few parks in Mumbai are as big as Mindspace Garden.

The garden has a celestial theme to it, with the nine planets placed in orbit at the entrance, and once you are in there, there is a zodiac walk that gives information on all the star signs. There are areas designated for jogging, star-gazing, playing, and leisurely strolls.

Different flowers are blooming on either side, which makes the atmosphere very peaceful, pleasant and importantly, gives you space.

Large number of couples visit the park, each finding a spot for themselves to spend some quiet time together, or sit on the bench and gaze at the sunset, take pictures. Even group of friends looking to have a quiet conversation enjoy coming to the park. The health conscious crowd go to parks for their daily walks, jogs, or to exercise. Families bring their children to play in the garden.

Due to its close proximity to BPO offices, lot of young call centre employees are seen at this park. More places like Mindspace Garden are needed in Mumbai to maintain sanity and give young couples some breathing space.
